Fox, 1929, sn303169, 16GA, 5lbs. 14oz., M/F
The A.H. Fox C Grade guns are considered by many to be the most attractive of the Fox guns. There are higher grades, but the C Grade engraving is elegant. The 16ga. C Grade is a rare gun, as they only produced 305 C Grade Fox guns in 16ga. and only 202 came from the Philadelphia factory. Of those, less than 175 or so remain intact. Anyone who has handled the Fox 16ga. graded guns realize they are all built on a 20-gauge frame and are light and finely balanced double guns that are a delight to carry afield. Weighing just 5lbs. 14oz., this CE Fox sn303169 built in 1929, is delightful in hand. NOTABLY, THE GUN MATCHES THE FACTORY ORDER CARD PRECISELY AND WAS ORDERED WITH SPECIAL RICHLY FIGURED WOOD THAT MIGHT BE FOUND ON A HIGHER-GRADE FOX. All the serial numbers match and all parts are original to the gun. The 28” Chromox Steel #4 weight barrels (Fox’s lightest) are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, with perfect mirror bores, tight ribs, factory 2 9/16” chambers, factory choked M/F, and retaining 100% rust blued barrels with sharp lettering and engraving. There are very few #4 weight barrels on CE 16ga. Fox guns. The action is factory original 55% case color thinning on the bottom, excellent screws, top lever well to the right of center, superb detail in the engraving, all mechanically excellent with strong well-timed ejectors and crisp trigger pulls. The trigger guard has been properly charcoal blued retaining 99%+ finish. The stunning special-order European walnut has been beautifully restored to perfection with a hand-rubbed oil finish, no cracks or repairs. This is a remarkable find in this marketplace as the high-grade Fox guns are all being horded by their owners and at this time there are NO Fox CE Grade 16ga. guns for sale on the internet. When you do find one for sale, they are likely to have been notably altered since leaving the factory. VFI has thoroughly gone through this Fox to ensure all functions properly and is in safe condition. See the specifications below for the details. When we have a rare gun in hand, we do not automatically lengthen the chambers to 2 ¾”, as we leave that up to the buyer at the time. THIS GUN DOES MEASURE UP TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE CHAMBERS AND FORCING CONES MODERNIZED AT THE NEW OWNER’S REQUEST FOR $360 HERE IN OUR GUNSMITHING DEPARTMENT. What a great Fox gun for all your upland needs and sporting clays when those vintage shoots come up. The Fox CE 16ga. is highly sought after and the values continue to rise. Thanks for looking!
