Merkel, 1989, 20 Gauge, 5lbs. 15oz., Chokes SK/IC, LOP 14 9/16", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 9/16"
Serial Number: 409349
Merkel shotguns made in Suhl Germany demonstrate legendary German engineering, with strength and function always foremost in the design. The earlier Model 147 EL is a graceful, lightweight game gun utilizing 5 separate locking systems; Greener Crossbolt top fastener, the rib extension, the barrel lug through the bottom of the frame, and the traditional double underlug fasteners to give incredible strength and durability to this handsome double gun. This 147 EL 20ga., sn409349 built in 1989, hand engraved with deep chiseled game scenes, and special attention to the smallest details, is in outstanding original condition. The barrels retain 99% of their original blue. The mechanics on this gun, to include crisp trigger pulls, strong well-timed ejectors, auto safety, are in excellent working order. THIS IS A “VFI CERTIFIED GUN”, meaning we stripped the forend iron and receiver to the smallest parts, ran it through the Ultrasonic cleaner, inspected all parts for integrity and function, then lubricated and reassembled (a $375 service). VFI CERTIFIED guns carry a 90-day mechanical warranty. The barrels are tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face. These are hand engraved shotguns in the upper end of the Merkel line. Just look at the beautiful English walnut stock on this gun with straight line mineral streaks and lots of fiddleback radiating through the buttstock, all laid out on perfect axis with the wrist! Awesome! The MSRP for the 147EL was $8880, and that was almost 20 years ago! The earlier guns did not have 3” chambers, which allows greater versatility of use. This one can be had at a fraction of the new retail cost. With its 27" SK/IC fixed chokes, she weighs a scant 5 pounds 15 ounces and balances gracefully 1/4” ahead of the hinge pin. This is a dynamic handling shotgun for your upland hunts or sporting clays, just in time for summer practice and the upcoming bird season. Priced to sell and destined to give you enjoyment for generations, it would be hard to find a better modern-day double gun value. See the tables below for the specifications. Thanks for looking!
