This Marlin 1894 Custom Carbine was mfg circa 1980, and is approximately 99% overall condition. Chambered in .357 Magnum/.38 Special with a 16" barrel. The original owner had just purchased this rifle when Winchester released the John Wayne Commemorative Rifle/Carbine sets. He lived in Safety Harbor, Florida, just down the road from the original headquarters of the Bob Cogan Custom Shop & Accurate Plating & Weaponry. He took his new Marlin carbine to Cogan and requested that he re-make the rifle into something resembling the new J.W. Commemorative. This carbine is the result. I have had many dealings with both Cogan's Custom Shop, and A.P. & W. over the past thirty years, and have always found their work to be impeccable. This carbine features a target crowned barrel cut to 16", antiqued receiver, polished blue barrel, the bolt, hammer, trigger, newly fashioned large loop lever, and both barrel bands are industrial hard-chromed. There was no simple way to remake the crescent butt plate in steel, so Bob fashioned a hard leather butt plate instead. The original owner assured me that the carbine had not been fired more than one box of shells-and that appears to be true. I fired about a half dozen .38's through it one afternoon, and it shoots wonderfully! To have this caliber of work done today would probably cost half again the asking price of this carbine, let alone the purchase of a donor Marlin carbine...
