Description:

New lower price as of 8/10/24. 30-06. I inherited this through the loss of a friend 3 years ago. I think his intentions were to try to make this a vision of what an Eddystone sniper would have looked like. He found this excellent condition P17, and with a great gunsmith he had the end of the barrel cut back to the front of the barrel/stock/bayonet collar to give it a British Enfield look. He then had the gunsmith grind down the rear sight dog ears to the receiver frame and did some factory type blue-ing. Data is out there that the Weaver #11 mounts fit the forward mounting area perfectly, and if the grinding of the dog ears is done right, will fit the rear mounting location as well, and the mounts fit perfectly after the gunsmith tapped them in. It looks like it left the factory this way. I have photos with mounts on, and with the mounts off. He never got to the point of finishing it out with rings and a scope but that is all it would need to be ready to go. The stock is in way above average condition. No cracks. Handling marks are few and light everywhere except the lower section between the collars at the end of the barrel, the handling marks are heavier there. There are several well-defined stampings in the stock. I think all the metal has been professionally re-blued except for the floorplate and trigger guard area. The floorplate has scratches and the trigger guard has light surface pits. The flaming bomb markings are well-defined. All of the bolt is remarkably shiny and shows little use. The bore is in stellar condition, shiny, smooth as glass, deep grooves, I think the barrel could be new. In the top open space of the front bayonet lug collar, there are a couple tapped screw holes present in the top of the barrel. By the accessories I'm including which I will mention below, I believe he wanted to have the option to switch this configuraton to open sights whenever it suited him. I've taken this gun out to the range and put a few rounds through it. Everything functions tight and flawlessly. Comes with an extra barrel and receiver frame assembly. Unaltered this time except for having the front sight removed. I believe it was his intention, when it suited him, to be able to swap in this extra barrel/receiver assembly, keep a sniper kind of look to it, but have the full length barrel instead of the British Enfield kind of appearance. He may have intended to have the dog ears ground down on this extra assembly as well, I will never know, but that gets into the extra accessories he bought for this that I am including as well. A Williams #17 mount, complete with rings. I think his intention was to put this on this alternate barrel/receiver configuration. A front hooded sight, and an adjustable rear sight, again apparently so he could swap out scope or open sights as he wished. It's up to the new owner to decide on the preferred configuration(s). Extra barrel is pitted, bore is frosted with worn grooves but looks serviceable. I can provide many photos.
