My Beretta 686 Onyx Waterfowl edition is a fabulous shotgun for hunting ducks and geese!! It never fails you and can’t hardly be hurt. I hunted Canada Geese on The Brule in South Dakota where the conditions were just brutal—sleet, snow, freezing rain and high winds that put clouds of talcum powder-like dust in the air before it got wet and the Beretta never failed me. I had other shotguns with me, knowing how hard that weather is on guns and they all jammed.
You’ll notice that the finish is Matte so you don’t spook the birds as they are very averse to anything that is shiny or reflects light. I love that about this shotgun.
It has 28” barrels with screw in choke tubes, is manufactured specifically for steel shot. It shoots 2 ¾” or 3” twelve-gauge shells. It has a length of pull of 14 ¼” and weighs approximately 7 pounds. It has a single trigger and a barrel selection feature in the safety—very handy, practical, quick and a standard for a Beretta Over/Under.
I’m 75 and waterfowl hunting has become a little too difficult for me AND I’m too lazy to get up that early?! This shotgun operates flawlessly and needs nothing and is ready to hunt right now. Obviously, it is a waterfowler’s shotgun, but I’ve used it with great success on Upland game, including Quail. It is a superb example of Beretta’s fine art of shotgun design and manufacture.
Thanks for looking and considering.
